Chainsaw-wielding suspect in West Richland standoff caught by police

WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – West Richland Police responded to a tense domestic assault situation today, involving a suspect wielding a chainsaw and making life-threatening threats, police said in a release.

Police said they arrived at approximately 4:25 p.m. and safely escorted the victim away from the property.

Officers observed the suspect entering the residence with the chainsaw, prompting them to set up containment with local law enforcement resources.

Witnesses reported the presence of live grenades and firearms inside the home, the release said.

Officers established phone contact with the suspect, who repeatedly exited the residence to yell at law enforcement before retreating inside.

After a brief standoff, officers, along with a K9 unit, successfully took the suspect into custody.
