RICHLAND, Wash.– A new Mexican food truck in Richland adds to the already rich options of eats in the area.
Sabor a mi Tierra, meaning “Flavor of the/my Land,” started serving food just a couple months ago at 1040 Queensgate Dr.
Co-owner and operator Araceli Contreras first came to the Tri-Cities in the early 90’s, before leaving for the west-side of Washington, and returning not too long ago.
Contreras is from Jalisco, and she survived a cancer scare before starting the new food truck.
Her business partner, Antonio Vasquez, is from Puebla, Mexico, and the team worked together to create a menu distinct from the plentiful Mexican eateries in the Tri-Cities area.
One dish they chose to highlight was the cemita: a sandwich on a homemade sesame seed bun with battered and fried steak slices (similar to Country Fried Steak), plenty of avocado, jalapeños, slices of chipotle, onions and quesillo (similar to pulled-Oaxacan cheese).
The cemita calls Puebla home, and Contreras says it can be harder to find in the Tri-Cities than the usual taco-and-burrito fare.
The pair also highlighted grilled fish tacos, with cilantro, lettuce, and salsa verde.
Sabor a mi Tierra is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Queensgate Dr. in Richland.
