SUNNYSIDE, Wash. – Yakima County Sheriff’s Deputies have discovered a car submerged in a canal north of Sunnyside on Continental Road, between Hanford Road and Washout Road.
The discovery was reported around 2:00 p.m., March 25, according to Sgt. Rasmussen, Traffic Unit Supervisor with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO).
Crews on the scene have not yet determined if the vehicle is occupied. Efforts are underway to gather the necessary equipment to retrieve the car.
Sgt. Rasmussen stated that the initial investigation suggests the vehicle has been in the canal for less than 12 hours.
No roads have been closed due to the incident, but crews are expected to remain at the location until the vehicle is fully retrieved and transported, said Sgt. Rasmussen.
