Rudy’s Pepperblends crafts salsa mix, meat rubs and pepper blends all made with locally grown peppers. Rudy Peña grows the peppers, dries them up then uses his own recipes to formulate different levels of heat in the spices.
“My wife didn’t care for any of the local spices,” said Peña. Which is why he decided to make the TCB (Tri-City Blend) in 2005. Using 30 kinds of chili peppers Peña created a medium heat blend that he says can go on just about anything.
When Rudy won first place at the Fiery Foods Fest in Pasco for his salsa, his salsa mixes quickly became a hit.
Rudy and his wife plant and harvest their own peppers, planting during the first week of May. “We planted about 120 Tri-City peppers,” said Peña.
To get your hands on some of Rudy’s Pepperblends you can buy from their website or head to the Pasco Farmer’s Market. Rudy’s is also available to buy at the Ranch and Home in Kennewick as well as the Kennewick Red Apple Market.
