SPOKANE, Wash. – Fire officials have responded to fire conditions by implementing new public use restrictions across Eastern Washington.

These restrictions, effective July 4, 2025, apply to lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), BLM said in a release.

The restrictions impact numerous counties, including Spokane, Yakima, Benton, Franklin and Walla Walla.

“Know Before You Go and be prepared before visiting your public lands this summer,” said Lonnie Newton, Fire Management Officer for the BLM Spokane District.

All campfires and open fires, including charcoal briquettes, are banned. Discharging firearms is prohibited unless engaged in lawful hunting. Smoking is only allowed in areas clear of flammable vegetation, and motorized vehicles must stay on roadways free of such vegetation.

Fireworks remain prohibited on public lands. Violating these restrictions can result in fines up to $100,000 and/or imprisonment for up to one year. Those causing wildfires may also be held liable for damages and fire suppression costs.
