Bird flu detected in Yakima County backyard chickens

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – Bird flu has been identified in a backyard flock of chickens. The Yakima Health District is taking precautionary measures by contacting people exposed to the infected birds to monitor for symptoms.

According to the health district, there are currently no confirmed human cases of avian influenza in Yakima County. Human infections are rare and the risk to the general public remains low.

Residents are advised to avoid touching sick or dead birds. If you encounter such a bird, report it to the Washington State Department of Agriculture.
