TRI-CITIES, Wash. – The Benton-Franklin Council of Governments (BFCOG) has been awarded a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support local revitalization efforts.

This funding is part of a nationwide $267 million investment in brownfield redevelopment, BFCOG said in a release.

BFCOG said it will use the grant to conduct environmental assessments and planning activities in the cities of Richland, Connell, and Prosser.

“BFCOG’s Brownfield Program Vision is to revitalize vacant and underutilized properties in the Benton-Franklin region…to benefit the community through job creation, increased property values, environmental restoration, and reduced health risks,” Michelle Holt, BFCOG Executive Director, said.

Established in 2021, BFCOG’s Brownfield Program has previously utilized a $600,000 EPA grant for similar efforts in Kennewick, Richland, and Pasco.
