Benton County voters to decide on fire service tax measure

BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – Benton County voters will soon decide on a property tax measure to support local fire services. The Benton County Fire Protection District One board has proposed a ballot measure to fund fire protection and services.

If approved, the measure would restore the district’s regular property tax levy to $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2025 for collection in 2026. It would allow for annual increases of up to 6% over the next five years, without exceeding the $1.50 cap. By 2030, this final approved levy would become the base rate for future funding under state law.

Ballots will be mailed on October 17, according to the Washington Secretary of State’s office. For those registering to vote or updating information, online and mail registrations must be received by October 27 to count.

Voters should return their ballots to an official Dropbox by 8:00 p.m. on election night.
