Benton County seeks community input on climate hazard planning

BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – The Benton-Franklin Council of Governments (BFCOG) is collaborating with Benton County’s jurisdictions—Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, and West Richland—to address climate-related natural hazards.

Under a 2023 state law, these jurisdictions are required to incorporate plans for hazards like wildfire smoke, drought, and extreme heat into their comprehensive plans. These plans guide future growth and must be updated by 2026.

BFCOG is seeking insights from residents about their experiences with climate hazards and identifying specific areas or individuals at risk.

Community involvement is crucial to ensure the plans reflect local realities and aspirations, BFCOG said.

Residents are encouraged to share their experiences to help guide effective planning for the region’s future by attending one of three Zoom meetings around the Tri-Cities. To register, visit the BFCOG registration page.
