BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – Richard Jacobsen, 36, has been sentenced to life in prison for the aggravated murder of Brandy Ebanez nearly two years ago.

Jacobsen learned his fate today after a Benton County jury found him guilty on June 18 in a trial lasting nearly three weeks, the prosecutor’s office said in a release.

Ebanez was discovered in the Columbia River near the Cable Bridge on September 22, 2023. Her body was wrapped in plastic sheeting and a comforter.

An off-duty Kennewick Police Officer found her, and an autopsy revealed she was dead before being placed in the river. She had a broken neck and was between 16 and 20 weeks pregnant.

The Benton County Prosecutor’s Office expressed gratitude to the jurors, the Kennewick Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office for their dedication and thorough investigation.

They also acknowledged the support from other law enforcement agencies involved.
