Benton County jury convicts Anthony Spearman for 2021 Kennewick murder

KENNEWICK, Wash. – A Benton County jury has found a man guilty of murder in connection with the August 2021 shooting of a 65-year-old man near Hawthorne Elementary in Kennewick.

Anthony Spearman is scheduled for sentencing March 20 after an eight-day trial resulted in a conviction on charges of second-degree murder with a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm.

In a release, the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office extended gratitude to the jury and acknowledged the Kennewick Police Department for their thorough investigation, which led to Spearman’s conviction.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Kristin McRoberts and Taylor Anderson were praised for their dedication over the years in seeking justice for the victim, Leonard Slack Jr., and his family.
