OLYMPIA, Wash. – Benton City and the City of Prosser stand to benefit from a share of $3.2 million in low-interest loans and grants to assist communities with early-stage construction projects, the Washington State Public Works Board said in a release.

According to the Public Works Board, Benton City will receive $75,438 for its Sewer Line Inspections project. This funding will help clean and inspect approximately 8,000 feet of asbestos cement sewer line. The city aims to address extreme root growth and deteriorated pipes, prioritizing necessary repairs.

Prosser is set to receive $100,700 for improvements at its Wastewater Treatment Plant. This funding will address maintenance issues with the Yakima River sewer crossings, preventing potential raw sewage overflows and protecting water quality.

Pre-construction funding applications to the board are open continuously and awarded quarterly. The board has already provided over $18.2 million to 37 projects in the current fiscal biennium. The next application deadline is March 31, 2025, with awards expected in May 2025, the release said.
