BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – A traffic evaluation by Benton County Public Works Engineering has led to a proposal to lower the speed limit on a half mile stretch of Badger Road from 50 MPH to 35 MPH.
The study revealed that Badger Road’s clear zone and sight distances are inadequate for a 50 MPH speed limit due to two private road intersections and a bluff reducing visibility.
The road, a Rural Major Collector, connects Webber Canyon Road to the Interstate-82 interchange. It accommodates between 550 and 700 vehicles daily, and its surface condition is rated above 80%, the study said.
Based on these findings, the Benton County Engineering Division will recommend to the Board of Commissioners adjusting the speed limit to 35 MPH, the county’s agenda action report said.
Commissioners will consider passing the resolution during its May 13 meeting.
