Badger fire destroys home, dozens of vehicles

BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – Firefighters in Benton County continue to fight a vegetation fire near on Badger Road near Canyon View Drive.

According to Benton County Fire District 1, crews first responded to the fire around 10:30 PM Monday night. The fire is estimated to be around 40 to 50 acres in size and has destroyed a home and an upwards of fifty vehicles.

The fire has also burnt wildland grass, haystacks and structures that surrounded a residence.

Deputy Chief Ryan Nicholls with Benton County Fire District 1 says the fire is around 50 percent contained. The occupants of the house were able to escape, and no one has been injured. He says a chaplain was on the scene earlier in the morning who provided services to the affected family.

Badger Road was closed from Station 150 to Canyon View Drive but reopened around 6:00 AM. At the fire’s peak, upwards of 30 fire apparatuses and 60 personnel were fighting the fire.
