YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – The attorney for embattled Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice has clarified that a resignation agreement approved by the county commission still needs to be signed.
Curtice has a seven-day “cooling off period” to potentially rescind his resignation, which will not begin until the document is signed. However, Pickett expressed confidence that Curtice will proceed with signing.
“The agreement with Yakima County, one I think it’s a positive step forward for Yakima County, and now it’s a step forward for Mr. Curtice and his family, and more importantly I think it’s a positive step forward for our community.” Attorney Bill Pickett told NonStop Local News.
Last month, Curtice faced charges of official misconduct, making false statements to a public servant, and tampering with evidence. Police reported that Curtice lied and later admitted to taking drugs from deceased bodies in his office and using them while on duty.
This settlement is separate from Curtice’s legal trial, with his next court appearance scheduled for May 2 on the three charges.
