TOPPENISH, Wash. – Astria Toppenish Hospital is set to celebrate the opening of its new Behavioral Health Unit with a ribbon cutting and open house on Tuesday, August 5.

Astria said the new 14-bed unit expands the hospital’s capacity to 29 beds, with modernized spaces focused on trauma-informed and patient-centered care.

“Astria Toppenish Hospital has always been a place rooted in service, built on land gifted by Maud Bolin of the Yakama Nation,” Cathy Bambrick, Administrator for Astria Toppenish Hospital, said. “This expansion honors her vision by continuing to meet the critical healthcare needs of our community.”

The project was made possible by over $7.9 million in grants from community leaders and legislators. It will also create local jobs and support the hospital’s financial stability.

The Behavioral Health Unit provides care for adults experiencing acute psychiatric disorders, many with co-occurring substance use and chronic medical conditions. Patients can stay from 90 to 180 days to receive treatment for long-term recovery and stabilization, Astria said in a release.

The hospital plans to renovate the existing 15-bed unit later this summer.
