RICHLAND, Wash. – The annual Polar Plunge event is bringing brave participants to Columbia Point Marina to support the Arc of Tri Cities and the Special Olympics.

Officer Thomas Yazwinski with the Pasco Police Department highlighted law enforcement’s connection with the Special Olympics. “Law enforcement has been helping out with the Special Olympics for decades across the globe,” Officer Yaz said. “We’ve actually helped raise over a billion, billion with a B, dollars for Special Olympics because it’s such a great cause.”

Officer Yaz also spoke about the importance of the event. “It’s all for a good cause, Special Olympics. All this money raised will help local athletes so they can travel to their special events that they’ve been training for,” he said.

Those interested in participating can sign up until Friday afternoon or register at the event. Participants are encouraged to form teams with friends, colleagues, or community groups.

“Maybe you have a church small group that you can plunge together with, or maybe it’s like a sewing circle,” Officer Yaz suggested. Reflecting on his own experience, Officer Yaz shared, “I remember when I had my first plunge, it was years ago in Tacoma. I’ll never forget it. It was quite an experience.”

The Polar Plunge will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 at Columbia Point Marina.

Participants will have the opportunity to warm up in a hot tub after their plunge, thanks to the event sponsors.

For those ready to brave the chilly waters, the event promises to be an unforgettable experience while supporting a worthy cause.

Information for the plunge can be found on the Arc of Tri-Cities’ website.
