PASCO, Wash. – Amentum, an international engineering company, has made a significant contribution to the Pasco School District. They donated $20,000 to support the district’s STEM programs for the upcoming school year.
The donation aims to enhance students’ curiosity and engagement with science, technology, engineering, and math subjects. Amentum’s senior vice president expressed pride in supporting the Tri-Cities’ legacy of scientific innovation by preparing the next generation of engineers. “Washington was one of the pioneers, for, nuclear way back in the 1940s. And to be here again to help pioneer kids, to be problem solvers. I think that’s great,” said the senior vice president Kim Jackson.
Jackson emphasized the importance of getting children excited about engineering and technology early on. “How we solve problems is with people who know how to use engineering technology, how to innovate. And if we can get kids excited about that early on, they could be our future employees,” she added.
The donation will help students in the Pasco School District explore their curiosity through STEM programs. The district’s Director of Instruction and Assessment spoke about the importance of starting young. “I think when students are younger, they’re a little bit braver in a way, to try things, and not so worried about maybe failure. And so I think as they have those opportunities to try out, and experiment, they gain confidence, they learn how to solve problems, they learn how to kind of build resilience and work together,” she said.
The program is set to continue for years to come, as confirmed by a senior vice president with Amentum. This initiative will play a crucial role in fostering problem-solving skills and innovation among students in Pasco.
