KENNEWICK, Wash. – Barnes & Noble in Kennewick offered more than just books this past weekend. The bookstore partnered with Mighty Meow Kitten Rescue, donating 10% of all weekend sales to support the rescue efforts.

Visitors to the store were treated to the sight of several cats available for adoption. Mighty Meow Kitten Rescue concluded their two-day book fair at Barnes and Noble, where attendees could interact with and adopt cats.

Linn Serven, treasurer of the nonprofit, emphasized the importance of their work.

“There’s a horrible feral cat problem here [in the Tri-Cities]. So, we not only rescue the kittens that are found, but then we go back with Cattitude and get the moms and dads fixed,” said Serven.

Serven explained that they have already rescued over 200 kittens this year, including one named Betty.

“Betty was hand raised with a bottle when we found her, until she was ready to start on regular food,” said Serven. She added that this type of care makes the kittens very accustomed to human interaction.

The rescue also encourages people to become foster parents for the cats. Serven mentioned that they provide all necessary supplies, from formula to cages.

“We really have to work together as a community for the feral cat population,” she stated.
