Has Untamed been renewed for Season 2?
Yes, in July 2025, less than two weeks after the first season began streaming, even though the mystery thriller was billed as a “limited series.” (That doesn’t mean what it used to.)
“I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of Untamed to life,” Bana said in a statement (via Tudum). “The response to Season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.”
Added showrunner Mark L. Smith, “Elle [Smith] and I envisioned it as a stand-alone, six episodes. But then the more that we got into it, it was just such a great cast … it was just like, ‘Oh yeah, how do we keep this going?’”

When will Untamed Season 2 premiere?
It’s too early to speculate. But it will be six episodes.
Who’s in the Untamed cast?
Untamed Season 2’s cast includes, in addition to Bana (as Kyle Turner, a special agent for the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB), Shea Whigham, Kelly Hu, Moon Bloodgood, Kekoa Kekumano, Luciane Buchanan, Moronai Kanekoa, Robbie Magasiva, Myra Molloy, Branscombe Richmond, Matthew Keoni Sato, and Joe Tippett.
Whigham will star as Ray Burkart, a businessman and bereaved father who clashes with Turner over the investigation into his son’s murder. Sato recurs as Ray’s son, Kaden. He works for him and is dedicated to the family business.
Hu recurs as Awapuhi, who was born and raised on Hawaii Island. She’s returning to the Big Island to face past demons after she lived in Oahu dealing with her son’s death.
Bloodgood plays series regular character Layla Hale. She has a deep connection to Hawaii and is described as “funny, confident, and intuitive,” someone who is “able to sense Turner’s suffering and helps bring out a softer side.” Kekumano, a series regular, stars as Marcus Sawada, a local Hawaiian Volcanoes Park Ranger assigned to assist Turner in the murder investigation.
Buchanan recurs as Ku’ulei Pana, the Hawaii PD detective assigned to the investigation, She grew up on the island, so she’s well-connected. Magasiva recurs as Lt. Ochi, a longtime Hawai’i PD lieutenant and her boss.
Kanekoa, a recurring guest star, plays Ti Hale, a proud and territorial wrangler on the Hale family ranch. But because he has traditional values, he struggles with his daughter Addy’s wilder side. Molloy recurs as Addy, the family’s youngest member who becomes caught up in the murder investigation.
Richmond recurs as Ikua Hale, the owner and patriarch of Hale Ranch, which has been in the family for six generations. He’s described as “untrusting toward outsiders.”
Tippet recurs as “lone wolf” Casper Kane. He’s “never in one place for long, competent in the wilderness and living off the land, he’s looking to leave his mark.”
Untamed Season 1 also starred Sam Neill as chief parker ranger Paul Souter; Lily Santiago as the newest ranger Naya Vasquez; Rosemarie DeWitt as Kyle’s ex-wife Jill; Wilson Bethel as former army ranger Shane Maguire; and William Smillie as veteran park ranger Bruce Milch.

Since Paul and Shane were both dead at the end of Season 1, chances are we won’t see Neill or Bethel again, unless Kyle begins to see those characters like he did his dead son. We’ll have to wait to see if we see anyone besides Bana, given Kyle left behind Yosemite at the end of the finale and is now heading to Hawai’i.
“We’re trying to figure that stuff out because my God, we loved our cast and we loved the characters that they brought to life,” Mark L. Smith told Tudum in July 2025. “In an ideal world, we would be able to pull something off.”
Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith are showrunners. Joining them as executive producers are Bana, John Wells and Erin Jontow via John Wells Productions; Todd Black and Tony Shaw for Escape Artists Entertainment, Steve Lee Jones for Bee Holder Productions; and Cliff Roberts for Syndicate Entertainment.
How did Untamed Season 1 end?
The season ended with Kyle solving the investigation into the death of Lucy — Paul was her father and his actions led to her going over the cliff — as well as choosing to leave behind his version of his dead son rather than join him. Naya killed Shane when the latter was hunting Kyle. It was also revealed that Jill turned to Shane to kill the man who murdered her and Kyle’s son, and that was the secret he was keeping.
What will Untamed Season 2 be about?
The series is now described as “a character-driven mystery thriller that follows National Parks Service special agent Kyle Turner (played by Eric Bana) who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness.”
According to the official Season 2 logline, Kyle is “called to investigate a mysterious death in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, where local tensions and the volatile, living landscape become an unpredictable force.”
“We’re excited to explore the pristine landscapes and cultural identity of a very different national park, and find Turner in a new state of mind, outside the comfort of Yosemite,” co-showrunners and executive producers Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith said in a statement (via Tudum).
When TV Insider spoke with Bana about Season 1, he agreed that Kyle would be very different going forward, should the series continue, “and it would depend on where he is and who he’s surrounded by.”
Mark L. Smith’s tease to Tudum echoed that. “Turner was so comfortable in Yosemite,” he explained “He was the one leading this charge, and people followed him. And now, [we’re] putting Kyle on his back foot, making him very uncomfortable … This time we get to follow Turner into a park and let him lead us, and we stumble along with him as he’s kind of finding his way.”
