State of the Union reactions vary in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. – Reactions to President Trump’s State of the Union address have been mixed within the community.

Anali Nunez from Pasco expressed frustration, stating, “I lasted just a couple of minutes. There was just such blatant lies, and it was just infuriating. I couldn’t watch, so I had to turn it off,” she said.

Meredith Piehowski of West Richland also shared her thoughts. “I almost kind of thought that he was almost acting like a toddler or like he was just. it wasn’t very educated,” she said.

On the other hand, Geron Bergerson from Kennewick had a positive outlook. “Personally, yeah, I thought he did great. That ending speech was just like, this is basically summed up everything that the United States is,” he said.

Thomas Kiefer from Hermiston felt optimistic about the direction of the country. “I felt pretty comfortable with all of it. I think we’re headed in the right direction,” he said.

Some residents remain concerned about safety and other issues. “I definitely think things are not improving and that safety is, still a concern and that there’s a lot of issues that he did not address that he could have,” Piehowski said.

Angela Weaver from Richland was impressed by the president’s accomplishments. “I was really impressed with all the things that he’s accomplishing that a lot of presidents haven’t before him,” she said.

“The world is not a comfortable place right now, and I’d rather be in the United States than anywhere else,” Kiefer said.

Despite differing opinions, some residents remain hopeful. “I feel good about it. I think we’re going in the right direction for sure,” Weaver said.

Beyond these interviews, several others shared their views off camera. Some praised the speech and President Trump’s performance, while others chose not to watch, expressing disinterest in giving him their attention.
