WASHINGTON STATE — Gas prices in Washington have seen a significant increase, climbing 50 cents in just one month. This surge places the state among the highest in the nation for gas prices.
According to Triple-A, Washington now holds the third-highest gas prices in the country, with an average of $4.35 per gallon. This is only surpassed by California and Hawaii. In comparison, the national average is $2.95, while Idaho’s average is slightly higher at $2.97.
Experts suggest that the increase is possibly due to the seasonal switch of gasoline blends, with the summer blend being more expensive to produce. Economists note that this switch typically begins on the West Coast, leading to an earlier price increase in states like Washington.
Local averages also reflect this trend. In the Tri-Cities, the average price is about $4 per gallon. In Walla Walla, it stands at $4.05, and in Yakima, the average is $4.03, according to Triple-A.
