
YAKIMA, Wash. – Early Sunday morning, Yakima police responded to reports of gunshots fired on the 400 block of North 5th Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found three teenagers with gunshot wounds. A 16-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims, a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, were transported to Yakima MultiCare Hospital for treatment. They were then taken to a Seattle area hospital for more advanced care.
As of 1:20 p.m., their conditions were reported as critical according to the police department.
Yakima Police Department mentioned that there is limited information regarding what led to the shooting.
The identities of the individuals involved are currently being withheld as detectives work to piece together the events that occurred.

Regarding the incident, the Yakima Police Department released the following statement at 1:22 pm:
“On February 22nd, 2026, at approximately 3:15 AM, Yakima Police Officers responded to a report of gunshots being fired at a residence in the 400 block of N. 5th Ave. Upon arrival, three victims were identified with gunshot wounds.”
“One victim, a 16-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene, and two other victims, a 16-year-old male and 17-year-old female, were transported to MultiCare Hospital for treatment; from there, they were transported to a Seattle area hospital for advanced care. Their condition remains critical at this time.”
“The Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene to investigate. At this time, there is limited information about what led up to the shooting. The identities of the individuals involved are being withheld while detectives continue to piece together what occurred early this morning.
