The messaging and social platform Discord announced on Monday that it will begin implementing age verification on its platform globally starting next month.
The new process will set all user accounts to a “teen-appropriate” experience unless users verify they are adults. The age verification process will require either a face scan or proof of identification.
Users who do not verify as adults will face certain restrictions. They will not be able to access age-restricted servers and channels, participate in Discord’s livestream-like “Stage” channels, or view content flagged as graphic or sensitive.
Discord said move aims to enhance safety and provide a more secure environment for younger users on the platform.
