FDA requests removal of suicide warnings from weight-loss medications

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking to remove suicide warnings from several popular weight-loss medications, including Wegovy, Zepbound and Saxenda.

The request comes after an FDA review determined there is no increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors associated with the use of these GLP-1 medications.

“Health care professionals should be prepared to discuss with patients that FDA has found no increased risk after conducting a comprehensive review of the available data,” according to the FDA website.

GLP-1 drugs were initially approved to treat type 2 diabetes, but are increasingly used for weight loss.
