
News release from the Yakima Police Department
On January 1, 2026, at 7:53 pm, Yakima Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of N 2nd St to reports of a collision. When officers arrived, they found a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 1996 GMC Sierra that were involved in a head-on collision.
The Tahoe was being driven by a 22-year-old female resident of Yakima. It was also occupied by a 20-year-old male in the front passenger seat, holding an improperly secured 3-year-old. All three occupants were transported to MultiCare Memorial Hospital. The driver and the child were treated and released without significant injuries. The adult male passenger suffered from a concussion and a broken arm.
The GMC Sierra was driven by a 48-year-old male resident of Yakima. He showed signs of impairment and was arrested for Felony DUI and Vehicular Assault. Criminal charges are being filed against the guardian of the child for reckless endangerment.
