Police departments collaborate to catch fleeing hit-and-run driver in Benton County

RICHLAND, Wash. – The West Richland Police Department (WRPD) assisted the Richland Police Department (RPD) in apprehending a suspect after a hit-and-run incident on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).

RPD officers responded to a collision near Queensgate Drive and Duportail Street around 2:30 p.m., however while en route to the scene, the officers were informed that one of the drivers involved in the crash had fled in their vehicle.

The suspect driver was reportedly heading westbound towards unincorporated Benton County. With BCSO deputies occupied at the time, WRPD stepped in to assist.

WRPD officers successfully stopped the fleeing vehicle and detained the suspect, who was described as “semi-cooperative” and showing signs of impairment.

Custody of the driver was transferred to RPD, and an investigation has been opened into the incident.
