WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – The City of West Richland continues to make progress on the SR 224 Red Mountain Vicinity Improvements project, which involves significant traffic changes in the area.
Paving at the Ruppert Road and Belmont Boulevard intersection began Wednesday and is expected to be completed Friday, November 11.
Next week, crews plan to adjust utilities to align with the new pavement and finish striping, signage and roundabout sidewalks.
Additionally, work is progressing on the retaining wall. Formed footings and rebar are in place, with the first segment to be poured this week. Further pours will continue over the next few weeks.
The Ruppert Road, Belmont Boulevard and SR 224 intersection remains closed, with traffic directed to a temporary SR 224 bypass. The intersection is scheduled to reopen on December 8, after which the closure area will shift.
Traffic restrictions include:
– SR 224 is closed to thru traffic between Paradise Way and the Ruppert Road, Belmont Boulevard intersection, allowing property access only.
– Detours are set via Paradise Way, Keene Road and Ruppert Road.
– Belmont Boulevard is closed at the intersection, directing traffic back to Paradise Way.
– Traffic near the CID Canal area will remain on the bypass through winter.
Furthermore, Canal Drive will be detoured onto Douglas Road on Friday, November 21, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with no impacts to SR 224.
