BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – The Benton County Canine Shelter celebrated an expansion that quadrupled its available space, offering a temporary home for abandoned or stray dogs.

The shelter’s mission is to reunite lost pets with their families and provide a safe place for dogs from unincorporated areas of Benton County.

Josh Castilleja, Benton County Canine Control Manager, emphasized the necessity of this upgrade.

“We had basically ten spots for stray dogs, and that literally quadrupled with the new expansion,” Castilleja said. “We doubled our quarantine rooms, so even injured dogs, pregnant dogs, abandoned puppies, sick dogs. Now we can double what we bring in on those. With the growing population of dogs right now in the county. It was just impossible to keep up.”

The Benton County Canine Shelter only accepts strays or found dogs and does not accept dogs surrendered by their owners.
