PASCO, Wash. – The city of Pasco is introducing a new feature to extend swimming activities into the colder months at Memorial Park Pool. An inflatable dome now covers the pool, creating a winter swimming oasis.
Brent Kubalek from the city of Pasco shared his excitement about the project. “We’re excited to be at this point that the bubble is finally here and in place,” said Kubalek.
The process of installing the dome has been extensive, requiring significant investment and effort. Kubalek explained how the project came together over time. “Between 1.5 and $2 million… over the last few days, they’ve done quite a few things that you can see all the dome material itself just comes on pallets, folded up. So it’s a lot of unpacking those pallets, folding, getting laid out,” said Kubalek.
For those who enjoy swimming under the sun, there is no need to worry. The dome will be removed for the summer season. “It’ll be down and out of the way for the summer swim season. So you can be in the out in the fresh air and enjoy the facility as it’s been in the past here during the summer,” said Kubalek.
Kubalek is thrilled to offer the Tri-Cities a new wintertime activity and anticipates a positive impact, especially for competitive swim teams. “It will provide that year round indoor space, especially for competitive swim teams like the high schools and other teams here… definitely expand the capacity of wintertime swimming in the Tri-Cities,” said Kubalek.
City employees estimate that the pool will begin reopening in about a week.
