PASCO, Wash. – Pasco is in the process of selecting a new leader following Pasco Mayor Pete Serrano’s appointment as the interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington.

The city council now faces the task of appointing a new council member.

Alyssa Warner, the city’s communications and outreach coordinator, provided insights into the next steps.

The city council has 90 days to appoint a new member to fill the District Four seat for the remainder of Serrano’s term, which ends this year.

As Serrano was running unopposed for another term, the council will need to appoint someone for the new term starting in January, which will last until December 31, 2028.

Warner mentioned that the city is still working on the application process and will announce when applications become available.

Regarding the mayoral position, the current city council will select a new mayor to serve until the end of the year during an upcoming meeting.

Until then, Mayor Pro-Tem David Milne will assume the role.

In Pasco’s city manager form of government, the roles of mayor and mayor pro-tem are mainly ceremonial and are chosen from and by council members every two years.

The newly-seated council will hold a vote in January to decide on the next mayor and mayor pro-tem.
