YAKIMA, Wash. – The Department of Homeland Security reported an attack on the city’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office over the weekend. Photos shared on X showed a rock thrown through a window, damaging part of a wall, and a fire that started behind the building. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The incident occurred on Saturday. The fire was reported just after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. According to the Yakima Fire Department, it began at a homeless encampment and reached the fence line of the ICE office, damaging only the fence. While arson is suspected, it has not been proven.

Five minutes before the fire, a rock was thrown through the ICE office window. The Department of Homeland Security described the perpetrator as a “cowardly rioter.” They noted it’s unclear if ICE agents were specifically targeted. The department also highlighted an 830% increase in assaults against ICE officers from January 21 to July 14 this year. ICE declined further comment beyond their post on X.

The Department of Homeland Security emphasized that anyone seeking to harm officers will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The investigation into the damage at the ICE office is ongoing.
