PASCO, Wash. – Residents of Pasco gathered at Memorial Park to celebrate the Fourth of July with a full day of festivities. The event highlighted American culture with music, food, classic cars, and community spirit.

Pasco Parks and Recreation organized the event, emphasizing the importance of celebrating American culture. Attendees enjoyed the lively atmosphere with music, grilling, and classic cars.

Bob and Carolyn Hillweg, a couple for over 40 years, shared their joy in participating. “Just fun to come around and visit with everybody and get to know them and all grow together. So it’s really fun,” said Bob Hillweg.

The Hillwegs have made the Fourth of July a tradition, showcasing their restored cars. Bob shared the story of their Chevrolet pickup and Chevelle SS 396, both restored from near ruin. “The 53 Chevrolet half tone five window pickup originally came from Endicott, Washington, where it was laying in a drive, a brick bed with a tree going up through the floorboards and out the passenger side window,” he explained.

Brent Kubalek, the Recreation Services Manager with the City of Pasco, expressed his delight in seeing the event come together. “Once you see it moving forward and people are enjoying themselves and having a good time and basically reaching the purpose for what you planned it for. That’s the most enjoyable part for me,” said Kubalek.

The event aimed to foster a sense of community and pride in being part of both the United States and Pasco. Kubalek emphasized, “We want to create an event that is family friendly, brings everybody out. And builds community and a sense of pride of being not just a part of the United States, but also part of Pasco and then the Tri Cities.”

Fellow enthusiasts can head to Prescott Elementary on August 16th, from 10am-2pm, to join Bob and friends for a classic car show.
