KENNEWICK, Wash. – Haviland Gilbert, a music teacher at Kennewick’s Lincoln Elementary, has been recognized as a 2025 Country Music Association Foundation Music Teacher of Excellence.

According to the Kennewick School District (KSD), this prestigious award is given to just 30 educators nationwide each year.

Traci Pierce, KSD superintendent, highlighted the significance of this honor.

“This award isn’t just about being a great teacher,” Pierce said. “It recognizes music educators who go above and beyond in the classroom and in the community; educators who inspire, innovate, and create lasting impact.”

Gilbert will receive $5,000 for professional development and classroom programs. He will also be honored at a red carpet celebration in Nashville.

Gilbert expressed his gratitude to his colleagues at Lincoln.

“These awards, it’s not just about me as an educator, but you as a staff, too. You’re all so responsive to what I do, and so encouraging to me and the students.”
