WSU Tri-Cities hosts panel on future of small modular reactors and sustainable energy April 22

RICHLAND, Wash. – A panel discussion on the role of small modular reactors (SMR) in achieving sustainable energy goals will take place at Washington State University Tri-Cities on April 22, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The event, hosted by the Institute for Northwest Energy Futures, will be held in Room 120 of the Consolidated Information Center, with an online viewing option available.

Yonas Demissie, assistant director of engineering and environment at WSU Tri-Cities’ Institute for Northwest Energy Futures, emphasized the significance of this event. “With experts from industry and research, attendees will gain valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges surrounding SMR deployment,” he said.

Panelists include Corey Hines, director of the Nuclear Science Center at WSU Pullman; Gregory Cullen, vice president of Energy Services and Development at Energy Northwest; and Mark Nutt, manager of the Nuclear Energy Market Sector at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. They will explore the challenges, barriers, and policy perspectives related to SMR deployment.

The discussion, moderated by Kristina Lord, executive editor of the Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business, will feature a question-and-answer session, allowing attendees to engage with the experts directly.
