RICHLAND, Wash. – The Richland School District is celebrating a significant achievement as Taylor Sandoval, an elementary school counselor at William Wiley Elementary, has received the Washington School Counselor Association’s (WSCA) Rising Star Award.
This accolade honors an early-career counselor who has shown exceptional dedication and impact within their school community.
“Taylor looks out for each and every student at Wiley,” said Wiley Elementary Principal Paul Chartrand. “She has a huge heart and has really focused on getting our counseling department the best it can be. She has great ideas to make situations better for our kids and works tirelessly every day to make our Wiley students successful.”
Sandoval, now in her third year with the district and fifth in the profession, played a key role in the Comprehensive School Counseling Program (CSCP) implementation committee during her first year, aligning with new state requirements under SSB 5030.
Colleagues describe Sandoval as energetic and compassionate. Her ability to build trusting relationships and provide critical support during crises is widely recognized.
Parents also appreciate her role as an advocate for their children. A parent shared, “Taylor is perceived by families as an ally, a support, and someone who is part of the team. She is a guiding light and a safe haven for so many in our community.”
