TRI-CITIES, Wash. – Tri-Cities Animal Services (TCAS) celebrated the opening of their new facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd.

The new space, which has been in development for over a decade, replaces the aging facility next door. Shelter Manager Ben Zigan says the new facility will have plenty of new features to accommodate their furry friends.

“We have noise dampening materials in the in the dog kennels, up on the walls and stuff… So the barking is is less stressful on the animals,” says Zigan.

He also says the facility will include divided sections for animals, providing more comfort, as well as ventilation and climate control systems. He also says the space includes an indoor meet-and-greet room for families looking to adopt or foster a pet.

According to Zigan, the facility cost $4,428,075.51, and will include industrial washing machines, dog grooming/washing stations, offices, a kitchen, and a veterinarian room.

Monica Noonin, the Foster and Transfer Coordinator for TCAS, says she was so excited, she had trouble sleeping the night before.

“I can’t explain or find the right words for the excitement we all have moving into this new facility,” said Noonin. “Our community has needed this new facility for such a long time now. We’re well overdue and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
