KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Kennewick School District, in the process of selecting its next superintendent, held the final interviews with the board Thursday night, January 30.

The candidates interviewed were Dr. Davion Lewis, Dr. William Fritz, and Lance Hansen. Each candidate shared their vision and philosophy for the district.

Dr. Davion Lewis discussed his approach to student discipline, emphasizing the importance of a positive school environment.

“I would push us to include a joy in that health and happiness. As a part of that, I think all the other things are great for learning. Environments need to be joyful as well, and so students need to enjoy coming to school and feel invested in that process and have a sense of ownership,” Lewis said.

Dr. William Fritz focused on the leadership style he would bring to the district, highlighting the significance of community involvement.

“This is super typical of the largest employer and kind of way we’re a model organization. The impact of many, many lives and so there needs to be communication and listening beyond the preschools and younger our children and our employees, but also in the community where community at large,” Fritz stated.

Lance Hansen shared his views on parental rights in education, underscoring the role of parents in their children’s success.

“The parents are partners, period. That’s a model we use in the Western school district. We know that parents have a role in the success of their children. I want to make sure that we share that with our Parent Bill of Rights, including many aspects, for example, notification aspects, our Parent Bill of Rights in our state. I’m certainly similar, they have to, 50% of all of our communities have to have parents and those are all good things,” he emphasized.

The finalists will return for a final round of interviews with district staff, students, and the community from February 4 through February 6.
