WASHINGTON, D.C.- The latest special enrollment period for veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan to join the PACT Act ends at midnight on September 30.

The PACT Act, an expansion of healthcare and disability benefits for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan was signed into law by President Biden on August 10, 2022.

Under the PACT Act veterans who served in a combat zone, but never enrolled in VA healthcare and left active duty between September 11, 2001 and October 1, 2013, are eligible to enroll directly in VA healthcare, without first applying for VA benefits according to a press release from the VA.

“Even if you don’t need this care now, you may need it in the future – and once you’re in, you have access for life,” said Denis McDonough, VA Secretary.

Veterans can learn more about the PACT Act and sign up at VA.gov/PACT or by calling 1-800-MYVA411. More information on the PACT Act is also available through the PACT Act Dashboard.
