YAKIMA, Wash. – 31 inmates were moved from the City of Kent to the Yakima County Department of Corrections (YCDOC) due to “severe flooding conditions,” according to the YCDOC Director Jeremy Welch.

Extreme weather conditions such as flooding and high winds have taken over the Pacific Northwest this week.

Welch described the move as “precautionary” for the safety of inmates and staff.

“This does not raise concerns for the Yakima County Department of Corrections, and is being completed as part of our housing contract with the City of Kent,” Welch said.
