2 arrested following West 4th Avenue shooting in Kennewick

KPD announced on Thursday that two arrests were made in connection with the September 22 shooting that occurred in the 1500 block of West 4th Avenue.

As the investigation continued, KPD detectives learned that the shooting took place during an altercation between acquainted individuals, leading to one male being shot multiple times. According to KPD, the male victim is currently recovering in the hospital.

The investigation yielded probable cause to arrest a 17-year-old male suspect, who reportedly fled the scene after the shooting. KPD officers, in collaboration with the Tri-City METRO Drug Task Force, located the suspect driving with another male and performed a high-risk traffic stop near the intersection of Belfair Street and Quinault Street.

The shooting suspect was taken into custody without further issue, and the other male in the car, also 17 years old, was discovered to be in possession of a stolen handgun modified with an “Auto Sear” device, which enabled the pistol to have an automatic rate of fire.

The shooting suspect was booked into juvenile detention in Kennewick on charges of assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. The other juvenile in the car was also arrested and booked into juvenile detention for unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and unlawful firearms.

“Our Officers and Detectives will continue to focus efforts on holding those accountable who endanger our community through gun violence,” KPD officials stated.

KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Kennewick Police Department (KPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred around 8 p.m. on West 4th Ave.

KPD has closed West 4th Ave between South Quincy and South Olympia Street while the investigation is ongoing.

Residents are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
