One person was killed and three were injured in the crash at the intersection of Fruitvale Boulevard and River Road on Sunday, according to Yakima Police.
Just after 3 a.m., law enforcement and the Yakima Fire Department responded to a report of a crash in the 3400 block of River Road. Upon arrival, they found a car resting on its roof and on fire.
Officers and YFD extinguished the fire and aided the crash victims, which consisted of four 20-year-old Yakima men.
YPD reports that one passenger died in the crash, while the driver and another passenger were brought to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for serious injuries. The last passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation found that the car was heading westbound on River Road east of Fruitvale Boulevard where the driver failed to maneuver around a curve, resulting in leaving the road, crashing through a construction zone and coming to a rest on its roof in a parking lot where it caught fire.
YPD says high speed likely caused the crash. Criminal charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
